Here are some Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra facts and information that not many people know about.
1. Mount Kailash height: 21,778 ft
2. Mount Kailash weather: best season to visit the place is from May to November
3. Not a single human has ever attempted to scale the Mount Kailash
4. Religions to which Mount Kailash is of importance: Bon, Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism
The above question hardly ever receives a correct answer as people believe that the mountain is present in Nepal. This is not true as the mountain dominates the Tibet landscape and the Mansarovar Lake and Lake Rakshastal are situated very near to this great mountain. The main reason why people have been led into believing that the mountain is present in Nepal is because the Mount Kailash Parikrama begins at Nepal.
The Mount Kailash is believed to be the dwelling place of Lord Shiva and for the Jains, it is the site where the first Jain was liberated and thus the place has a very strong significance in both the religions. It is believed that this area is where all the Gods reside.
The Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is very important in the lives of Hindus and Jains and the mountain in considered as the epicentre of devotees from all over the world since times immemorial. There are Mount Kailash Tours that are held all through the year, but not all of these are reliable and thus you need to be very careful while choosing the tour package.
Going for a trip of lifetime, Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not as easy as it was in the past as the mountain is now in the territory of China and thus getting a visiting visa to the place is not very easy. Also reaching the place of pilgrimage is not everyone’s cup of tea as the journey is long and the path treacherous. You need to get past many mountain ranges to reach the place. There are several ways that a person can take to reach the mountain. Some of them are:
• A path that starts out from Ladakh, Kashmir
• A path from the Gangotri glacier to Nailang Ghat
• A way from Badrinath to Man Ghat
• A route from Nepal to Kailash Mansarovar
• According to Mt Kailash facts, the route from Nepal to Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is the one that most people prefer and most pilgrimage tour organizers use this route only.
If you wish to be a part of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra or for some yatris known as Kailash pilgrimage then you first need to fly down from your current destination to Katmandu, Nepal. This is where the Kailash pilgrimage commences. Once you have reached Kathmandu, you will be met by airport representative of the Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra organizing company. Than after you will be transferred to the hotel. After sometimes rest, a detailed briefing about Kailash tour will take place in the evening. You will also be given a complimentary duffel bags, fleeces etc. You will be made to spend the night in a hotel or lodge depending of the package. Once you have sojourned at the hotel, the next day you will be made to visit different places in Kathmandu which includes a visit to the world’s holiest temple Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swyambhunath, Narayanhiti Royal palace turned to museum, Kathmandu Durbar Square etc. At the close of the day, you will return to you hotel and spend the night there. The next day, you will depart from Kathmandu to Kodari but if you are doing Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Lhasa than you will be flown to Lhasa, a small town in Nepal. There will be sightseeing in these regions also and the main places that you will visit are Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple etc. After this you will spend the night in a hotel in Lhasa. The next day you will be transported to a small region by the name of Sigatse where you will have to spend the night. The next morning you will be driven down to Lhatze that is a 7 hour drive from Sigatse. It will be late afternoon by the time you reach here and you will have to spend the night in the hotel room that has been booked for you in advance.
The next morning you will be driven down from Lhatze to Saga, and upon reaching here you will have to spend the night here in a guest house or lodge as there are not many good hotels in the region. From Saga you will have to travel to Prayang and spend the night there, before finally moving to Mansarovar. It is a 7 hour drive from the Paryang and while you are travelling by road, you will get a view of the mighty Himalayas and all of a sudden, the turquoise blue Mansarovar Lake will appear.
The actual Kailash Mansarovar parikrama will start the next day from Tarboche and from there you will need to trek for close to 7 hours to reach a place called Driraphuk. You will need to spend the night at one of the camps that are stationed at this place. Get to Zuthul Puk via Dolmala Pass. From Zuthul Puk you will need to go for Kailash Trekking till the actual pilgrimage point. Once there you can perform all the required rituals before turning back and returning on the same path. The pilgrimage itself will take some time and even though the whole journey appears to be very easy, it is an extremely tough one and requires a lot of will-power and physical strength.
If you feel that you are not capable of undertaking such a strenuous journey, then you have the option of getting flown done straight from Kathmandu to the pilgrimage site, where you can perform your religious duties and then be flown back by the same helicopter to Kathmandu, but this a very expensive affair and must be avoided, if you really wish to get a feel of the mighty mountains that this place possesses.
There may be slight deviations from the above said route and that is subject to the tour package that you avail. Also this place is really scenic and your journey will be incomplete without some Kailash Mansarovar Photos that can click while you are there and you are sure to cherish them for the rest of your life.
It is believed that Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has a healing effect on the minds of the people who go in for it. Also, as you will be in the cradle of nature, you will be able to clear up your mind and understand what true spirituality is.
When we travel to a Mount Kailash pilgrimage site for the purpose of prayers, money is something that is not really taken into account, but a rough estimate of the trip that I have drawn made me conclude that you will need close to £1199 to undertake this journey the home of the Gods. This is quite reasonable and if you put in some more cash you can also enjoy some adventure sports on your way back or visit a few neighboring cities in the country.
In case you plan to pay a visit to this sacred place by helicopter then you will have to dish out close to £2300 per head and yes, that is a whopping sum. It is a good choice in case you want to send an elder to this place, but he/she cannot undertake the journey.
If you like to customize this trip of lifetime; Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and have the real experience than, look no further and ask your travel organizer for customization of yatra. Also, if you book with a travel company then you will not have a problem as they will take care of all your needs and most companies provide compensation in case they do not meet the promises that they have made to the customer. Also, in case you go through a travel agency, then you will not have any trouble with transport, food, accommodation etc as the tour company takes care of everything and you will get all that you require on time. Also, they are in-charge for your safety.
