Day 1 : DEPARTURE NEW YORK

Today you will board on an overnight plane to Hanoi.

Day 2 : HANOI ARRIVAL

Welcome to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam.

Upon arrival, greeted by the local tour guide and transferred downtown. Check-in at your hotel.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Please note: the standard check-in time is 14:00 – 15:00.
Early check-in is not included and is subject to hotel availability.

Day 3 : HANOI – CITY TOUR – GROUP TOUR (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.

8.00- 8.30: Get picked up by our friendly guide and start to explore Hanoi City.

08.45: Arrive at Tran Quoc Pagoda located on Golden Fish IsLand in West Lake.

It is the oldest pagoda in Ha Noi built in the 6th century.

09.30: Visit the Ho Chi Minh complex, you have a chance to see the embalmed body of; Ho Chi Minh then walk around the garden to see 2 houses where he lived & worked from 1954 to 1969. Then visit One Pillar Pagoda where worships the Goddess of Mercy – It is the most unique padoga in the world

  • Should dress modestly by covering from shoulders to knees when visiting Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, temples, pagodas…
  • Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum is closed on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum is closed for at least 2 months (15thJune -15thAugust) for the annual maintenance but still can take pictures Mausoleum and visit around that area

11.15: Visit Vietnam Ethnology Museum to learn about the culture of 54 ethnic groups living in the whole country of Vietnam

Special Note: We will visit the Women's Museum instead of the Ethnology Museum closed on Mondays

12.45: Have lunch at our restaurant. You have an opportunity to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine with 8 delicious dishes.

14.00-14.15 : Continue to visit the Temple of Literature – the first university of Vietnam, established in the 11 century.

15.15: Leave for Hoa Lo Prison Museum which was originally used by the French colonists in Indochina for political prisoners and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War During this later period, it was known to American POWs as the "Hanoi Hilton".

16.15 -16.30: Tour finishes. Back to the hotel.

Day 4 : HANOI – NINH BINH – HANOI – GROUP TOUR (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.

07h30 – 8h00: Get picked up by our friendly guide then depart for Ninh Binh province

09h15: Have a short break for 15 – 20 minutes to relax

10h30: Visit Hoa Lư ancient capital of Vietnam between 968 and 1010. You have a chance to learn about Vietnamese history in the feudal system under Dinh, Le, and Ly Dynasty

11h45: Have a buffet lunch in the restaurant with a lot of local foods such as   goat meat, fish, chicken, and fried rice …Vegetarian foods are always available in the buffet lunch.

13h00: Visit Tam Coc by 1.5-hour bamboo boat.  You will be surprised by the charming beauty here with paddy fields, rivers, water, clouds, sky, and a stunning cave system during the boat trip. All make a masterpiece that the Vietnamese people called “Ha Long Bay on land”

15h00: Continue the tour for 45 minutes - cycling around the village to discover the life of the local people.

16h00: Get on the bus to return to Hanoi.

18h00: Get dropped off at Hotel in Hanoi.

Day 5 : HANOI – HALONG BAY – TRANSFER BY SHUTTLE BUS (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the hotel then check out.

At 9 am, head East for 3 hours driving to Halong Bay, the pride of the Gulf of Tonkin, a Natural World Heritage as designated by UNESCO in 1994 and 2006. The road will pass by the Red River delta with green paddy fields and rural villages, where hardworking farmers are busy with their farming jobs, plowing buffaloes, or planting seedlings. Upon arrival in Halong, check in on the overnight cruise to discover the magnificent beauty of this “Descending-dragon” bay, created by thousands of odd-shaped limestone rocks and karst grottoes. After lunch on board, we can visit the Grottos, stop for swimming or kayaking, pass floating houses, and approach islets to enjoy their beauty in close distance. Back to the cruise, enjoy the cooking demonstration before having dinner. Evening attend activities on the boat or relax at your leisure.

Day 6 : HALONG BAY – HANOI – FLIGHT TO HUE (B)

You should wake up early to enjoy the dawn on the sea in the early morning. The Vietnamese call the "East Sea" by a point-oriented name "Eastern Sea", so you may guess how miraculous seeing the sunrise over the islets of the Bay. After breakfast our boat will continue to cruise in marvelous areas, where almost every islet has its name, adopting its shape or reminiscent like Sail Island, Fisherman’s Head Rock, Butterfly Rock Turtle islet, etc. Check out your room and have brunch on board while the cruise comes back to the pier. Disembark from the cruise, and transfer back to Hanoi by the cruise’s shuttle bus.

Arrive in Hanoi, meet your private driver (no guide), and head to Hanoi airport for your flight to Hue. Upon arrival in Hue, transfer by private car (no guide) to your hotel to check in.

Day 7 : HUE – CITY TOUR (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide and driver and transfer you to the boat landing for a leisure boat trip along the Perfume River to visit the towering Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most famous Vietnamese landmarks. Take a short drive to visit the Tu Duc Tomb and Khai Dinh Tomb to help you understand more about the royal’s life and architecture.

12:00: Eat lunch outside of town and enjoy classic Hue cuisine at a restaurant in a beautiful garden setting.

Afternoon, return to the city center to visit Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City. If the time and weather are perfect, you could admire the glorious sunset on the Perfume River. Drive back to the hotel.

Day 8 : HUE – HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Hoi An. Arrive in Hoi An, you take an interesting walk over the tile-roofed Japanese Bridge, visit taciturn Chinese Assembly Halls, enjoy the attractiveness of ancient houses, or listen to the folk music of Central Vietnam at old club-houses. Later we can stop at shrines or stroll into the market located by Thu Bon River, where you may find the same feelings of the artists, who see the rooftops of Hoian a magical old world of Oriental feel and source of inspiration. This is also a wonderful town to shop for lanterns, soft silk, and raw silk, or get your clothes tailored within a day.

Overnight in Hoi An.

Note: The Japanese Bridge is currently undergoing restoration, we can still visit, however, the bridge is largely covered. This is scheduled for completion in 2024 but this isn’t guaranteed.

Day 9 : HOI AN – AT LEISURE (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy your whole day at leisure.

Day 10 : HOI AN – DANANG – FLIGHT TO SAIGON – CITY TOUR (B)

Breakfast at hotel then check out. Transfer (no guide) to the airport to take a flight to Ho Chi Minh City, also called Saigon, the most dynamic city in Vietnam. Upon arrival, welcomed by the local tour guide and transferred to the downtown. Check-in at your hotel (normal check-in time is 2 pm).

Start a city tour at the War Remnants Museum, one of the most famous historical attractions in Saigon. Coming to the War Remnants Museum, you can learn a part of how the Vietnamese had struggled and fought for their independence, freedom, and peace of the nation and the locals' perspective of the Vietnam War. The exhibits, such as weapons, documents, and photographs, displayed in the museum are firm evidence of war crimes in Vietnam and speak for the heroic actions of the former Vietnamese generation. We then visit the Reunification Palace, the witness of the fierce Vietnam War ending in 1975. The grand building today is a Museum and Hall of official receptions. Nearby the Palace are the Notre Dame Cathedral (view from outside only), built between 1877 and 1883, and the colonial-styled Central Post Office, one of the city’s major landmarks. Late afternoon, visit Ben Thanh market, a symbol of Saigon. Have shopping time there.

Note: Notre Dame Cathedral Saigon is under construction for renovating this iconic historical site of Ho Chi Minh City. The Cathedral is announced to be finished in 2027.

Day 11 : SAIGON – MEKONG DELTA – SAIGON – GROUP TOUR (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Saigon and start your trip to depart for My Tho, the town lies on the left side of the Mekong River. Upon arrival, visit Vinh Trang pagoda which dates back to the late 19th century. Then  boarding the sampan and cruising down the river around the four beautiful islands known as Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise islands.

Stop over at Unicorn Island, go walking around country lane and see orchards, and enjoy tropical fruits, and folk song music performed by the local people. Visit the fruit plantation.

Riding a hand-rowed sampan through the Thoi Son canal and treat yourself to the beauty of the countryside, visit the family business, visit honey-bee farm, enjoy honey tea and coconut candy workshop.

Have lunch at a local restaurant. Break time.

In the afternoon, time to cycle around the Tan Thach village, and meet the local villagers to experience the local daily life in the Mekong delta. Hammock relaxing and enjoying the cool breeze for those who can’t join the cycling trip. Return to Saigon.

Day 12 : SAIGON – CU CHI TUNNELS – GROUP TOUR (B)

Breakfast at hotel. Morning drive to Cu Chi Tunnels – the network of over 200km of tunnels became legendary when they played a vital role in the War. In their heyday, the tunnels were functioning underground cities including numerous trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers & kitchens. After a short introduction video showing how the tunnels were constructed, you will have a chance to crawl into a short section of the tunnels to feel the oppressive narrowness and heat inside. After lunch (own cost), return to Saigon.

Afternoon is your free time at leisure or your own sightseeing/shopping around the town.

Day 13 : FINAL DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel. Time at leisure until check-out time and transfer (no guide) to the airport for the departure flight back to your sweet home.

Vietnam Visa : Please note that to visit Vietnam, Irish passport holders are required an e-tourist visa. E-visa must be arranged in advance (before traveling) through this link https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt You MUST select the port of entry as per your itinerary to be allowed to enter Vietnam. UK passport holders are exempt of this requirement for stays up to 15 days.

Cambodia Visa : To have a better experience, we recommend that you apply for your tourist visa for Cambodia online as it will reduce your transit time at the border control.

You can obtain your Cambodian tourist visa in the following ways:

  1. Online: Apply for your E-VISA for Cambodia at least 7 days before your holiday. Click on this link https://www.evisa.gov.kh and select ‘VISA T’, the cost is approximately USD $36. The port of entry will be the port of entry in border control as per your itinerary. 
  2. On Arrival: If for any reason you are unable to procure your Cambodian e-visa online don’t worry, you will have an option to gain a visa at the Cambodian border control on arrival. We recommend that you bring a ‘passport’ photo (35 x 45 mm) with you and USD $36 for the payment.

While a Cambodian Visa can also be procured at the destination, VIETNAM VISA MUST BE PROCURED IN ADVANCE TO BE ABLE TO ENTER THE COUNTRY. (Required for Irish passport holders).

Passport : Please note that your passport MUST be valid for a minimum of 6 months after the validation date of your visa.

Travel Documents : Please ensure you take all your final travel documents with you to Cambodia & Vietnam.

Personal Information : Please ensure that your details are filled in identically to the data on your passport. If this information does not match, you cannot travel to and from your destination. Amendment to this information if entered incorrectly will result in additional charges. If married, please fill in your surname as it appears on your passport.

Optional activities/sightseeing : Sightseeing as per the itinerary is supported by the local English-speaking guide. Please note that, the optional activities/sightseeing are not exclusive to Lumle customers and groups will be mixed with customers from other travel companies.

Halong Bay Cruise : Each cruise is only permitted to pick one routing/itinerary to either Ha Long Bay or Lan Ha Bay. Routing/itinerary is subject to change without earlier notification according to the weather conditions or local administration regulations.

Transportation : Transportation is based on air-condition tourist vehicle. Transfers are assisted without English speaking guide.

Wi-Fi : While on road travel, it is highly unlikely that your transportation will be equipped with Wi-Fi or bathroom facilities, though rest stops will take place for long-distance journeys. We recommend purchasing a new SIM card at the airport or placing an e-SIM before travel to guarantee data with an internet connection.

What do I need to bring?

  • Comfortable and light clothing is the most suitable for traveling in Cambodia & Vietnam.
  • Visitors should not wear sleeveless shirts, shorts, short skirts, or skimpy clothing when visiting temples, religious or official buildings.
  • Shoes should be removed before entering a temple or private house.
  • Sun protection, sunglasses, a hat, and mosquito repellent can be very useful during your stay.
