After completing immigration, baggage claim, and customs formalities, step into the arrivals hall where a warm welcome awaits. A friendly representative from Lumle Holidays will be waiting for you, holding a placard with your name, ready to assist you with a seamless transfer to your hotel.

Recharge at the hotel, preparing yourself for the incredible journey through India that lies ahead.

Overnight: Hotel in Delhi

Day 3 : FLY TO THE SACRED CITY OF AMRITSAR

After a leisurely morning breakfast in Delhi, you’ll be transferred to the airport to board your domestic flight to Amritsar, the spiritual and cultural heart of Punjab. Your flight, Air India AI 497, departs at 13:40 and lands in Amritsar at 14:50 hours.

Overnight: Hotel in Amritsar

Day 4 : SACRED SERENITY & PATRIOTIC PRIDE IN AMRITSAR

Begin your day with a visit to one of India’s most spiritual and awe-inspiring landmarks – the Golden Temple, or Harmandir Sahib. Radiating peace and harmony, this shimmering marble-and-gold sanctum is the holiest shrine in Sikhism. Beyond its architectural splendour, it stands as a powerful symbol of human unity and spiritual devotion. You'll also explore the Langar Hall, where volunteers serve free meals daily to thousands of visitors regardless of religion, background, or status – a humbling experience of equality in action.

Continue on to the historic Jallianwala Bagh, a serene garden that hides a painful chapter of colonial history. Here, in 1919, hundreds of innocent Indians lost their lives in a brutal massacre. Today, the site stands as a solemn memorial with preserved bullet marks and an eternal flame, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and honour the lives lost.

For lunch, enjoy a meal at a local Punjabi restaurant (on direct payment), where you can sample the bold, rich flavours of Amritsar’s renowned cuisine.

In the afternoon, travel to the Wagah Border to witness the world-famous Beating Retreat Ceremony. Held just before sunset at the only road crossing between India and Pakistan, this synchronised military display of marching, theatrics, and patriotism is as dramatic as it is unforgettable. Soldiers from both nations engage in a powerful yet choreographed display of nationalism, concluding with the lowering of their respective flags in perfect unison.

Overnight: Hotel in Amritsar

Day 5 : SCENIC DRIVE FROM AMRITSAR TO CHANDIGARH – GATEWAY TO MODERN PUNJAB

After a leisurely breakfast, begin your journey towards the vibrant city of Chandigarh, travelling in comfort by private vehicle. The drive takes approximately four hours, passing through a tapestry of lush fields, rustic villages, and glimpses of daily life in the heart of Punjab.

On arrival in Chandigarh – India’s first planned city designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier – check in at your hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is yours to relax and soak in the serene ambience of this clean, green and beautifully structured city.

Overnight: Hotel in Chandigarh

Day 6 : EXPLORE CHANDIGARH’S ICONS & SCENIC DRIVE TO SHIMLA – THE QUEEN OF HILLS

After a leisurely breakfast, check out of your hotel and set out for a guided sightseeing tour of Chandigarh – India’s first planned city and a modern architectural marvel. Begin your tour at the Capitol Complex, home to three impressive structures: the Secretariat, the High Court, and the Legislative Assembly – all designed by Le Corbusier, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Next, visit the imaginative Rock Garden, an extraordinary space where industrial and domestic waste has been transformed into stunning sculptures and installations. Continue to Sukhna Lake, a tranquil man-made reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas. This serene spot is perfect for a stroll or simply watching the world go by. The lake is also a centre for water activities like rowing and yachting, and boasts the largest rowing channel in Asia.

Later in the afternoon, drive towards the cool, pine-scented hills of Shimla, the former summer capital of British India. The scenic journey takes approximately 3.5 hours, winding through hills and valleys with spectacular Himalayan vistas along the way.

Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and unwind in the peaceful mountain setting.

Overnight: Hotel in Shimla

Day 7 : RIDE THE TOY TRAIN & DISCOVER THE COLONIAL CHARM OF SHIMLA

After breakfast, head to the charming Shimla Railway Station to board the legendary toy train for a delightful joy ride. This UNESCO-listed narrow-gauge railway, built by the British in 1904, winds its way through lush hills and valleys over a 100 km route. With a top speed of just 20 mph and passing through 105 tunnels, this slow and scenic journey offers spectacular views and a nostalgic glimpse into India’s colonial past. The ride lasts about an hour but leaves a lasting impression.

After your toy train experience, set off on a sightseeing tour of Shimla, one of India’s most famous hill stations. Visit the sacred Jakhoo Temple, perched atop Jakhoo Hill, the highest point in Shimla. Reach the temple by a short trek and be rewarded with panoramic views and a serene atmosphere surrounded by lush deodar trees.

Continue to the Shimla State Museum, where colonial-era artefacts, Himachali art, and heritage pieces narrate the region's rich cultural history. If time permits, visit the majestic Viceregal Lodge (please note it is closed on Mondays), once the summer residence of British viceroys, and a perfect example of British-era architecture.

Return to your hotel in the evening and relax in the crisp mountain air.

Overnight: Hotel in Shimla

Day 8 : FROM HIMALAYAN HEIGHTS TO THE SPIRITUAL SOUL OF INDIA – SHIMLA TO VARANASI

After an early breakfast, check out from your hotel in Shimla and enjoy a scenic transfer to Chandigarh Airport (approximately 3.5 hours by road). From here, you will board a connecting flight to Varanasi, the spiritual heart of India, via Delhi.

Your flight itinerary is as follows:
AI 2403 – Departs Chandigarh at 15:30, arrives Delhi at 16:35
AI 9827 – Departs Delhi at 19:25, arrives Varanasi at 21:00

Upon arrival at Varanasi Airport, you will be warmly received by a Lumle Holidays representative and transferred to your hotel. Check in and unwind after a long journey, soaking in the first impressions of this ancient and sacred city that pulses with history, devotion, and mysticism.

Overnight: Hotel in Varanasi

Day 9 : VARANASI – SACRED RITUALS & SPIRITUAL AWAKENING ON THE GANGES

Begin your day early with an unforgettable sunrise boat ride on the River Ganges (subject to water levels). This serene journey unveils the soul of Varanasi as you witness life unfold on the Ghats. Observe locals bathing in the sacred river, offering prayers to the rising sun, and performing ancient rituals. The peaceful sound of temple bells and chanting creates an ethereal atmosphere that will stay with you forever.

After your boat ride, walk through the narrow, bustling lanes of the old city toward the Kashi Vishwanath Temple – one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. En route, discover smaller shrines, local tea stalls, and vibrant street life that reflect the city's spiritual pulse. You’ll also visit the Annapurna Temple before continuing to the colourful Phool Mandi (flower market), a fragrant explosion of marigolds and roses.

Return to your hotel for breakfast and some rest before heading out to Sarnath, located just outside Varanasi. This revered Buddhist site is where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after enlightenment, marking the birth of the Dharma. Explore the Dhamek Stupa, the Ashoka Pillar, and the Sarnath Museum, home to an exquisite collection of Buddhist art and relics.

In the evening, prepare for one of the most magical moments of your journey — the Ganga Aarti ceremony at the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Here, priests perform a mesmerising ritual with blazing lamps, rhythmic chanting of Sanskrit mantras, beating drums, and the sweet scent of incense. The sight of the flickering flames reflected on the dark river creates a divine spectacle as the Ganges is honoured with devotion and gratitude.

Overnight: Hotel in Varanasi

Day 10 : JOURNEY TO KHAJURAHO – INTO THE HEART OF ANCIENT TEMPLES

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic road journey from Varanasi to Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its intricate temple architecture and mesmerising sculptures. The drive, approximately 7 hours by private vehicle, offers glimpses of rural India — vibrant fields, roadside villages, and everyday life unfolding along the way.

On arrival in Khajuraho, check in at your hotel and unwind after the day’s travel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this historic town, once the capital of the Chandela dynasty and home to some of India’s most exquisite temples.

Overnight: Hotel in Khajuraho

Day 11 : EXPLORE THE MAJESTIC TEMPLES OF KHAJURAHO

Today, immerse yourself in the architectural wonders of Khajuraho, home to one of India’s most remarkable temple complexes and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Begin with a visit to the Eastern Group of Temples, which beautifully blend Jain and Hindu traditions. These temples are celebrated for their finely detailed carvings that offer a glimpse into the art, passion, and daily life of the Chandela Dynasty.

Continue to the Western Group of Temples, where you’ll discover the iconic Kandariya Mahadeo Temple. Standing 31 metres high, it is the largest and most ornate temple in Khajuraho, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Marvel at the temple’s intricate stone sculptures that depict gods, goddesses, celestial beings, and mythical narratives—an extraordinary testament to medieval Indian craftsmanship.

Overnight: Hotel in Khajuraho

Day 12 : JOURNEY FROM KHAJURAHO TO GWALIOR VIA HISTORIC ORCHHA

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Gwalior in your private vehicle, a journey of approximately 7 hours. En route, stop for a captivating exploration of Orchha, a hidden gem nestled along the banks of the River Betwa.

Orchha, a medieval city built by the powerful Bundela rulers in the 16th and 17th centuries, is steeped in royal heritage and timeless charm. Wander through its serene landscape dotted with grand palaces, intricately carved temples, and elegant cenotaphs (chhatris) that narrate tales of a bygone era. The rustic beauty and peaceful ambience of Orchha make it a memorable stop on your journey.

Continue your drive to Gwalior and check in to your hotel upon arrival. The rest of the evening is at leisure to relax after the day’s exploration.

Overnight: Hotel in Gwalior

Day 13 : EXPLORE THE TIMELESS MAJESTY OF GWALIOR

After breakfast, embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of the regal city of Gwalior, a destination renowned for its architectural grandeur and rich history.

Begin your exploration with a visit to the 8th-century Gwalior Fort, majestically perched atop a rocky hill. This formidable structure, often referred to as the 'Pearl Among Indian Fortresses', boasts a fascinating collection of palaces and temples. Admire the towering Jain sculptures carved along the approach road, dating back to the 15th century and some reaching impressive heights.

Within the fort, discover the exquisite Man Singh Palace, famous for its stunning blue-tiled façade and intricate interior decorations. Visit the Gujari Mahal, now converted into an archaeological museum, which once served as a palace built for Queen Mrignayani. Don't miss the intricately carved Sas-Bahu Temples and the towering Teli ka Mandir, a fascinating blend of architectural styles.

Continue to the opulent Jai Vilas Palace, a grand European-style mansion still partially inhabited by the royal family. Explore the museum housed in 35 rooms, showcasing royal artefacts, lavish furnishings, and even the world’s largest pair of chandeliers.

In the old town, visit the serene tomb of Mohammed Gaus, a saintly figure, and the nearby mausoleum of Tansen, the legendary musician and court singer of Emperor Akbar. These monuments are a testament to Gwalior’s cultural and artistic legacy.
