Day 3 : NEGOMBO – ANURADHAPURA

After breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Anuradhapura.

En route commence on a city tour in Anuradhapura ancient city.

Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, located in the Mahamewuna Garden of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, is a sacred fig tree believed to have grown from a cutting of the original Sri Maha Bodhi under which Buddha attained Enlightenment. This cutting was brought to Sri Lanka in 288 BC by the Buddhist nun Sangamitta Maha Theri, daughter of Emperor Ashoka, during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa. At over 2,300 years old, it is the oldest living human-planted tree with a known planting date. The tree stands on a high terrace, surrounded by four lower terraces with Bo trees, known as “Parivara Bodhi,” for protection. Administered by the Chief High Priest of Atamasthana and the Atamasthana Palakasabha, the site attracts millions of pilgrims annually. Despite being open to visitors, access to the uppermost terrace is restricted to protect the ancient tree from damage and vandalism, including a terrorist attack by LTTE in 1985 that resulted in 146 pilgrim deaths.

Explore the ancient wonders of Anuradhapura on a captivating city tour that delves into the rich history and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Anuradhapura is steeped in legend and lore, boasting magnificent ruins of ancient temples, stupas, and palaces. Witness the grandeur of sites like the awe-inspiring Ruwanwelisaya stupa, a testament to ancient engineering marvels. Wander through the ruins of monasteries and marvel at the intricate carvings and architectural splendours of structures like the Jetavanaramaya and Abhayagiriya. This immersive journey through Anuradhapura's timeless past offers a glimpse into the heart of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage, leaving visitors spellbound by its ancient grandeur.

Day 4 : ANURADHAPURA – JAFFNA

Upon arrival at the small river port, you will continue the journey by bus to a typical Costa Rican restaurant 'El Ceibo Restaurant' near Guapiles for a delicious homemade lunch. Around 13:30 hrs transfer to your next destination.

After breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Jaffna.

Upon arrival drive to Point Pedro Light house.Point Pedro, the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka, faces the Bay of Bengal and is home to a lighthouse constructed by the British in 1916, standing 105 feet tall. Nearby, the Sri Lanka Navy maintains a basecamp, and a significant communication tower is situated next to the lighthouse. However, the lighthouse has fallen into disrepair, with its staircase broken in many places, making it inaccessible to visitors. Afterwards visit the Nallur Kandawasamy.

The Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, located in the centre of Nallur, is Sri Lanka's largest Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan, venerated as the divine spear Vel. Murugan, originally a Tamil god of warriors and shepherds, is popular among Tamils and symbolizes beauty. His worship predates Brahmanic Hinduism and was later integrated as Skanda, Lord Shiva’s son. Founded possibly in the 10th century and attributed to the first Jaffna king in the mid-13th century, the temple was renovated and expanded during the late medieval period when Nallur was the capital of the Jaffna Peninsula. King Chempaha Perumal is paradoxically credited with both destroying and reconstructing the temple. Part of a chain of temples from Nallur to Kataragama, it marks the route of the Sri Lankan Pada Yatra pilgrimage.

Upon completion check in to the hotel and spend the day at leisure.
Day 5 : JAFFNA – KIRIMALAI – KARAINAGAR – JAFFNA
After breakfast spend the morning at leisure. Late afternoon, proceed to Kirimalai.

Keerimalai, meaning "mongoose hill" in Tamil, is named after a legend about a sage cured of a mongoose-like face by immersing in the healing waters of the Keerimalai Sacred Water Spring. Today, this spring is popular among local men and boys who enjoy splashing in the picturesque ancient pond overlooking the sea, with a separate bathing area for women behind the main pond. Adjacent to the spring is the Keerimalai Naguleswaram Kovil, one of Sri Lanka’s sacred Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. The sage is said to have established this kovil thousands of years ago in gratitude for the pond's healing powers. Located 30 minutes north of Jetwing Jaffna, Keerimalai sits at Sri Lanka's northern edge and can be easily paired with a trip to Dambakola Patuna, with both the spring and the kovil within walking distance of each other, allowing ample time to explore both attractions. Upon completion drive to Karainagar and then visit Casuarina Beach Casuarina Beach, stretching across the northern perimeter of Karaitivu, invites holidaymakers with its wide expanse, shallow waters, and the distinctive trees that give the beach its name. These trees form a compact coastal forest, providing perfect shade from the northern sun. At the eastern tip of the beach stands the Karainagar Lighthouse, adding to the picturesque charm of the shoreline. Along the way, you'll pass homes adorned with dried tobacco leaves on their outer walls. The final leg of the journey involves crossing the Palk Strait via the Karainagar Causeway to reach the peninsular island home of Casuarina Beach.

Upon completion, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 6 : JAFFNA - ELEPHANT PASS – JAFFNA
Morning after breakfast you are free at leisure. After Breakfast visit the Thalaiyadi Beach.

Thalaiyadi Beach, located on the northern coast of Sri Lanka, is a hidden gem known for its pristine beauty and tranquil atmosphere. This unspoiled stretch of coastline offers powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and nature appreciation. Unlike the more commercialized beaches, Thalaiyadi remains largely untouched, providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the shore, swimming in the gentle waves, and observing the local fishing activities that sustain the nearby communities. The beach's remote location ensures a peaceful experience, perfect for those looking to connect with nature and enjoy the scenic coastal landscape.

Next you will proceed to Elephant Pass and visit the War Memorial, Railway Station and Gamini Statue.

Corporal Gamini Kularatne PWV, (4 September 1966 – 14 July 1991), commonly known as Hasalaka Gamini or Hasalaka Sri Lankan Hero, was a Sri Lankan soldier renowned for his bravery during the Elephant Pass Siege, where he was killed. He was the first recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya, the highest award for gallantry given by the Sri Lanka Army.

A statue of Corporal Kularatne, also known as 'Hasalaka Gamini' or 'Hero of Hasalaka,' stands at Elephant Pass on the A9 road to Jaffna. This monument commemorates his sacrifice in rescuing hundreds of fellow soldiers who were outnumbered and under siege by LTTE fighters in 1991. The statue is erected at the exact spot where he gave his life, and the LTTE battle tank he destroyed remains on display where it was halted that day. His courageous act ended one of the most ferocious battles in Sri Lanka's modern history, saving the besieged Army camp and turning the tide of the conflict.
